Working Our Way Out of Poverty Participatory Budgeting Funding

Dumfries and Galloway Council are once again launching another round of Participatory Budgeting Funding which is specifically designed to give people the opportunity to make decisions on funding for anti-poverty projects within their local area. We want to ensure that local people and communities are at the heart of our decision making. Together we we'll be able to achieve more and better outcomes for our local communities through PB.

How it works

We are delivering Participatory Budgeting for 1% of our budget to let local communities directly influence spending decisions in their areas.

We will do this by:

·         working with people in your community to identify local priorities

·         generating solutions to meet local priorities

·         choosing the most popular solutions

Working our way out of Poverty Funding

For this allocation of Participatory Budgeting Funding, we want to offer organisations the opportunity to increase their capacity by recruiting additional staff to support you to deliver on projects which tackle the various forms of poverty within our region.  This targeted approach to funding will support organisations to increase their capacity in order to deliver critical services during the COVID-19 pandemic.

This PB Funding offers a unique opportunity to apply for the costs of a new employee who will help you to deliver your current projects or new projects which tackle poverty.  This funding can be used flexibly and can be used to create posts which are either part time or full time, or continue existing posts where the funding has ended. We want to be as flexible as we can to support your organisations to put in place the best approach that supports your community.

The projects which we are hoping will be delivered through this funding will ultimately:

·         increase income from employment

·         help to reduce the costs of living

·         increase income from national and regional benefits and benefits in kind.

Grant application amounts

Your organisation can apply for any amount up to the sum of £15,000.00.

Project Timeline

·         The Fund closes for applications at 8.00am on Monday 15 March 2021

·         All projects which go forward to the Online Public Voting Stage will be notified via e-mail by Monday 29 March 2021

·         Online Voting Commences on Friday 9 April 2021

·         Online Voting Closes Friday 30 April 2021

·         Projects are informed if they have been successful in receiving funding by Tuesday 4 May 2021.

Walk Leader Opportunity

Walking groups and the support they offer

Walk leader training this spring

With so many more people walking over the past year we are delighted to offer a range of walk leader training this spring.

During periods of lockdown, those who had been relatively mobile may not feel as confident on their feet. Walking groups, and the support they offer, could be a vital lifeline in our communities.

Could you help deliver a regular walking group in your community?

Litter Grabbers Locations

Litter Grabbers Locations Click on this grey link for locations

Hello All,

I had my Covid jab this morning, and I expect many of you have already had yours.  Let's hope that it is the start to being able to get together as a community before too long.

The Community Council and Discover Kirkmahoe have bought some litter grabbers which are available for anyone to use to help collect the vast amount which gets deposited on our verges.  There is one in each phone box, Kirkton and Dalswinton and the others are being looked after by members of the community who will use them and keep them safe for others to use too.  A list of their locations is attached.

Another issue is that there is a group of young people, mainly lads of about 13 who are riding their bikes dangerously on the roads near Kirkton and also visiting Carnsalloch House which is a dangerous place.  If you encounter them, please contact the Community police officers. The details are
01387-242358

And finally, We are considering producing a printed copy of Grapevine in the Spring.  If you are able to contribute, especially on behalf of a community organisation, please let me know.  I don't need the article yet, just to know that they will be forthcoming.

Keep safe, keep warm and keep looking out for each other!

Best wishes,
Alice
