Kirkton Hall AGM

Notice of the AGM of Kirkton Village Hall on October 5th. (See attached poster).

After the great shut down of the pandemic time, it is very heartening to note all the regular groups re-starting in the hall this September. But concerns still hover in the air (energy costs fare an example).  If you have any thoughts or concerns you would like to air- or would just like to meet the committee and hear what is going on - we would be delighted to see you at the meeting.
Best wishes
David Muir

Grapevine Articles wanted

We are starting to prepare another edition of Grapevine to be delivered towards the end of October. Please send any articles, advertisements, photos etc to me by Sunday 9th October at kccemail18@gmail.com.

Please also add details of meetings and events between now and April next year. If you are no longer the correct contact for your group, please pass this request to the right person.

If you have been involved in one of the very successful events run at Easter and for the Jubilee, please could you send a write up with photos. If you’re planning another event, this would be a good place to ask for volunteers and expressions of interest.

And if there’s something you do or a group you’re part of and think other Kirkmahoe residents might be interested in, please send me some information and I’ll fit in what I can. Choirs, book groups, fitness classes, etc.

Looking forward to being inundated,

Alice

Arrangements relating to the death of Queen Elizabeth II

Note our nearest book of condolence is at DGC Customer Service Centre, Lochthorn, Locharbriggs, Dumfries, DG1 1UF

Dear Community Council,

We thought it would be helpful to give you an update in an email about arrangements relating to the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Our Council’s website contains useful information Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II - Dumfries and Galloway Council (dumgal.gov.uk)

Books of Condolence - The Council website gives details of the various venues, mostly Customer Service Centres, where Books of Condolence are available for signing, complementing the Palace online Book of Condolence.  Please note that should there be anyone who can’t contribute in either of these ways, please let us know and we will make alternative arrangements.  Your assistance in making this known to people in your area would be appreciated.

Donations, tributes and Gardens of Remembrance – supporting the Queen’s charities and organisations of which she was Patron is encouraged, and the link to find these details is also on the website. However, should people wish to lay flowers and other tributes that is of course respected. A small number of Gardens of Remembrance are being promoted, places where there is space and a reflective environment, and any other locations where flowers are laid will be kept tidy. Your support and assistance with this, complementing the Community Assets team in your area, would also be appreciated. If there’s significant volume that means any walkways are affected please just let us know by contacting civichospitality@dumgal.gov.uk so we can relocate any tributes if required.  Hopefully of course, the tributes can remain where people have chosen to lay them. They will be collected after the funeral, with photographs being taken beforehand for our archive.   Senior Elected Members and Lord Lieutenants, Vice and Deputies will be laying small wreaths at various locations, mainly Gardens of Remembrance, during the period of Mourning – there are no formal services for this but there will be photographs taken for our archives. Should your Community Council be doing anything similar, please do send us your photographs.

Meetings and events – the Guidance issued by the UK Government (again available through the Council website) highlights that public buildings remain open, meetings and events can continue during the period of Mourning, so it is a matter for your individual Community Council to determine what your arrangements are should you have anything planned. Our Council has postponed routine Committee meetings as a mark of respect, but is having a special meeting of Full Council to reflect on the Her Majesty The Queen’s death and the King’s accession. Where events can be postponed this is happening, and some non-celebratory events are continuing.

Proclamation events – following Guidance from the Scottish Government Protocols Office last night, there will be small events in Stranraer, Kirkcudbright and Dumfries tomorrow alongside the laying of wreaths by the Lord Lieutenant and a Council representative in these locations. Details of the timing and locations will be posted on the Council website and shared with local media as soon as possible today – members of the public are welcome to attend.

Should you have any queries please email civic.hospitality@dumgal.gov.uk or phone myself or Liz Manson on 07826 512 765

Kind regards,

Hazel

Strike action – disruption to waste services

Strike action – disruption to waste services
Important Information.

Strike action – disruption to waste services

We are expecting disruption to our household kerbside collections across the region between 6am on Tuesday 6 September and 6am on Wednesday 14 September due to strike action by Unite members. Bulky uplifts and commercial waste collection may be impacted, too.

At this moment, no other council services will be affected and we are actively looking at contingency plans to minimise disruption.

This is part of a national pay dispute affecting local authorities across Scotland. Discussions are ongoing between council leaders, trade unions and the Scottish Government with a view to agreeing a pay deal and resolving the dispute.

We understand the impact and inconvenience this could cause and thank you for your patience. Please check our website and social media accounts (Facebook and Twitter) throughout the next few weeks for regular updates. As soon as we have further information we will share it with you.

Some help wanted at the school

Dear all,

We have a plea from our school and I wonder if you can help. Do you think there would be any members of the community who would like to work with us to maintain our school garden and playground area. Our pupils just love working in our garden, but we are finding this a little burdensome to maintain and develop to the standard we would like and to use to its max. This would include: Strimming grass area, weeding, planting etc (general garden care) We have 40 keen helpers who would love to be part in small groups even weekly twice weekly?

Who can I ask or can you spread the word. A member of staff would always be with the small group.

Thanks for your help

Children's Easter Event

From Kate Goodall an Alana Owens

Hi everyone,
We are still hoping to run an Easter event for the kids in Kirkmahoe but due to a low response rate, we are wondering if holidays are impacting the number of people who would like to come?
It's currently set for Saturday the 9th of April.
If you would like to come but the date doesn't suit, please email or comment on the Kirkmahoe Residents FB page with an alternative date and number of children that would be attending by Friday the 18th of March.
Once we have all the replies, we can add up the number of children and the dates and see if it is feasible to continue, which we really hope we can!
Thanks
