Laying the base for Heather & Sandy's Seat

As a result of the questionnaire the site chosen for the position of Heather & Sandy's seat, by popular vote, is behind the pump, to the rear of the grass triangle.
It was a dreich day for doing the work of laying the base, and securing the seat. Rain ended up stopping completion of the job, but before the deluge, the beautiful sandstone slabs which will form the base for the bench were laid. The slabs were kindly donated by Stancliffe Stone Company who operate the Locharbriggs Sandstone Quarry, and we are extremely grateful to them for their generosity.

Thanks to Neil Munro, John Young, David Howdle, and Alexander Muir for their help, and much appreciation to Peter McMillan whose slab laying skills were invaluable.

Do you have a 4x4? Would you like to help?

Hello Everyone, Gordon Bisset received this message from Ae 4x4 Club, I am sending it on incase anyone with a 4x4 is interested
Regards Jean Muir
Contact email for John Goodwin is clubnewsdesk@btinternet.com

It's nearly time to put the 'clocks back' an hour and 'the nights are fair drawing in' - as they say. The Ae 4x4 club members last year were busy at this time and throughout the winter months helping carers reach their clients whose homes were, in some cases isolated in exposed and remote areas. They were, in some cases bed ridden in homes that were cut off by snow and ice. We also play an important part within the Dumfries and Galloway Emergency planning and can provide much needed support to a range of individuals/organisations.
This is where you and your 4x4 comes into it's own!
This is your chance to do your bit, to help out like last year by delivering carers and/or vital supplies etc.
All you need to do is let our club secretary (John Goodwin) have your contact details, availability, type of 4x4, how many passengers and what area would be most practical for you. He'll coordinate the volunteers. Don't worry, it won't be dawn to dusk but just as little or as many hours a week as you are comfortable with. A couple of hours was the average last year
So go on, get your name on the Ae 4x4 response register and help somebody else have a great Christmas as well.........................

On Sunday 2/10/11 myself and James drove to Edinburgh in the pouring rain to run the Edinburgh 10k in aid of Marie Curie Nurses
Our day started at 7.30.am by the time we reached the start line we were like "droont rats" but our spirits were high and the atmosphere in the city was lively.By the time the race started the rain had stopped,it was a very scenic run through the streets although there was more hills than I expected. I managed to complete the race in 64 mins which I was pleased with as I'm no athlete! Afterwards we celebrated with a Chinese meal then drove home for a hot bath and a relaxing night on the couch.
(If anyone wishes to make a donation to Marie Curie Cancer Care they can contact Shirley direct or via kirkmahoe@googlemail.com)
