Charities, Utilities and VAT

It has come to our attention that the utility companies, so dear to all our hearts, are managing to charge VAT at 20% on premises which are registered as a Charity.

The correct rate of VAT for registered Charities is 5%.
If you have dealings with such premises it might be worth checking your bills to make sure you have not been caught out, and are paying too much.
If you are, in fact, paying too much it is possible to claim back four years of overpayment.
