KCC

Hello
The Community Council elections are held every 3 or 4 years and the next one will be on October 3rd.

As a community councillor you get the chance  to make things happen for the community, to liaise with Dumfries and Galloway Council over local issues, to have your say on what is proposed for Kirkmahoe by local and national government and to be involved in decisions to spend the income from the windfarms  (approximately £4000 each year).

The number of members has been increased to 11 from 7, so there is plenty of room for new members with new ideas even if all the existing members decide to put themselves up for election. If only 11 people or fewer volunteer there will not be an election - they will automatically become the next Community .Council. Anyone over 16 who reisdes in the area and is on the electoral roll for our area is eligible - and it would be great to have some young members.

Up until now the Community Council has met at 7.30pm on the third Wednesday in the month, alternately in Kirkton and Dalswinton Halls, except in July and December, but a new Community Council could change that.

For more information and application forms which can be completed online or printed please visit https://www.dumgal.gov.uk/communitycouncils. Closing date for application is 3rd September

Regards
Jean Muir
Secretary Kirkmahoe Community Council

Community Council Elections
There will be community council elections in October. The number of community councillors has been increased from 7 to 11 to reduce the individual commitment but still ensure the community council functions. If 11 people stand we will have a full community council without an election, if more than 11 there will be a ballot. At present we meet for about 2 hours on the third Wednesday of the month except in July and December. Everyone over 16 who is on the electoral role for our area is eligible. Please contact any existing member to find out more or reply to this email address (see attached poster)
Gala Concerts at Dalswinton
This week the Friends of Ellisland Farm are hosting two Gala Concerts at Dalswinton House to raise funds for Ellisland. They say 'We would love you to join us for two fantastic concerts to be held in Dalswinton House. We are so grateful to the Landale family for giving us permission to use this venue for two wonderful nights of music. On Thursday 25 July we host Robyn Stapleton and Mike Vass with folk songs in Scots, English and Gaelic inspired by female Scottish writers. On Friday 26 July we welcome David Douglas and Esther Swift for an evening of traditional, classical and contemporary songs for harp and voice. Both concerts start at 7pm with drinks and canapes. This is a unique opportunity with limited places, so booking is essential. Supporters are being offered tickets at a discounted rate of £25 for one concert or £40 if you book for both. Please reserve your place by contacting friends@ellislandfarm.co.uk or phoning 01387 740426.'
